I Have 2 Birds That ALL DAY Every Day Fly Into Our Window.?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird House with 9 Comments

Has anyone ever seen or dealt with this? It begins at sunrise every morning and goes until sunset.
We have a big front window at our house and there is a Cardinal and A Robin that repeatedly fly into the windows.
Our wake up call every morning is their beaks hitting the glass OVER AND OVER!!
Is it that they are maybe seeing their reflection?
Any Suggestions? Thanks!!

Do all birds like those black sunflower seeds?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird Feeder with 8 Comments

I recently bought my first bird feeder. The man I bought it from advised me on what types of seed to buy. I remember him saying that cardinals especially like those black sunflower seeds. We have cardinals here and I like seeing them outside my kitchen windows, so I bought a big bag of black sunflower seeds and put them in the bird feeder. I haven’t seen any birds use my feeder until today. I saw a few brown sparrows (I think) fly up to the feeder and then fly off, but I haven’t seen any birds since. I would have thought they’d have spread the word about a new feeder in town! Now I’m wondering if they don’t like those black sunflower seeds. Did I misunderstand the guy? Did he mean they will only attract cardinals? Thanks!

How do I care for baby birds that I found?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird Feeder with 4 Comments

I just found three baby birds on my driveway. I think they fell out of the tree above them. I put them in a box and gave them some water and food which they drank and ate. I left the box under the tree so the mother could keep feeding them. When I go and check on them I sometimes see a female cardinal fly out (that’s what I think they are). Is there anything else that I can do for them?
Edit: They have been in the box up in the tree for four days now. I checked on them a few hours ago and they were fine but I checked on them now and one of them is gone. What could have happened? The box is too big for them to jump out and it is high up.

How long will it take for me to hand feed the birds on our apartment porch?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird Feeder with 2 Comments

I have doves ,grackles, cardinals, sparrows, finches, and even large crows sometimes..and lately some doves and sparrows will sit on the porch while my hubby and I are either on the porch or about to step out on to the porch..but, then after a bit, they will usually fly away! How or when will they be "unafraid" of us..and stay a bit longer or come towards us to be fed? Do you think that this can happen at all? I love the birds alot!
Thanks!

Why are the birds no longer coming to the feeder?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird Feeder with 3 Comments

I moved about 2 years ago and started feeding the birds shortly after that. I had a nice mixture of birds… chickadees, nuthatches, sparrows, juncos, blue jays, cardinals, gold finches (lots of them). So this summer I increased the number of bird feeders and types of food that I offer… thistle, black oil and mixed (each in their separate feeder). I also have suet & a ‘suet ball’ from the meat department out there.

I’ve always had a bunch of birds and now… I’m lucky if I see a couple of nuthatches and woodpeckers a day! What in the heck happened? Any ideas and/or suggestions for what I should do?
YES birds do fly South… BUT the birds that I specifically mentioned do not leave Pennsylvania for the winter! I fed these birds last winter and this summer!

How do i take care of a baby Cardinal?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird Feeder with 3 Comments

Can you all PLEASE tell me how to take care a baby Cardinal?
Please do not say anything like,
take it to the bird rescue shelter, or, Just leave it there, or Its not illegal in some states. i’m well aware of all those things!

How do you feed it? I heard of something called, ‘Exact’ which someone else who had a baby Cardinal used, and it was very healthy.

How do i take care of it? Can i just keep it in a bird cage filled with napkins, towels, and washcloths, and a heating lamp?

I don’t feed it water, right?

I heard you have to feed it on a certain side of its mouth so that the food doesn’t get into its breathing tube. ..??

How often does it need to be fed, and when it does, how much?

And… When its old enough, do i have to teach it how to fly, ( is that even possible?) or can it learn by itself?

ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated! Please only answer if you know the answer to atleast ONE of these answers. Remember, this is for the good of the bird.

Why is this bird doing this?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird House with 4 Comments

There’s a cardinal that apparently lives around my house, I live in the country so good place I guess. Anyway for the past two months the bird will spend a considerable portion of the day like headbutting our windows and doors. It starts way too early in the morning and lasts until evening. There’s a pattern too. It’ll fly up to the window or door, bang three times, fly away, a couple minutes later return and do it again. It just flies around my house from window to window doing this all day. So odd. We don’t feed it or anything. I was wondering if the bird was like sick or if this is explainable or if there’s just a half psycho bird flying around my house all day

Urgent! Found baby red bird (fledgling)!?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird Feeder with 3 Comments

About two hours ago I found a baby bird in the back yard. It’s a fledgling, meaning it has its feathers and it’s hopping around. I did some research and it said that the mother probably pushed it out of its nest to teach it to fly.

I put it into a pot and took it inside while I did some more research. It said to return it to the spot in which you found it and the mother would return. I did that and both cardinal parents have returned to it. They keep coming down and feeding it and they’re chirping at each other. I think the baby has some holes in its wings, but I don’t know if that’s just because they’re not fully developed? So I’ve been sitting outside for nearly two hours in triple digit heat, gaurding the bird (I have cats and had to put them in a cage for now, but I can’t leave them there).

My local wildlife rehabillitation center (waaay across down) has already closed for the day. I don’t know what else to do. The baby can’t fly.

What can I do?

THanks.

why is this bird seem to be trying to get into my kid's bedroom window?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird House with 3 Comments

there is a robin that keeps trying to get in my kid’s bedroom window it will sit on the edge of the window or in the tree that is right next to it for hours and try to fly in we had the same problem with a cardinal at another house and it was only on the kid’s bedroom window. I tried covering the window but this did not work i cannot think of anything inside that is attracting the birds.
