Feeding Mourning Doves & Other Wild Birds

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird Feeder with 11 Comments

I put out black-oil sunflower seed to attract some birds and within a week and a half I had up to 25 mourning doves on my deck at a time. Other birds include Blue Jays, Finches, Cardinals, Titmice etc… They arrive around 6:30 am to 7:00 am and are in and out through out the day. Once one mourning dove shows up the entire flock is soon to follow. Other Videos to check out. www.youtube.com www.youtube.com www.youtube.com www.youtube.com

Flock of Birds Feeding in Winter

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird Feeder with 2 Comments

We supplement the birds’ food sources during the winter. At times, I would estimate we have around 100 birds eating…once time I counted at least 30 cardinals. We also have a new visitor, a squirrel, that has come up from the woods to dine and dash. What she and the birds don’t finish, the deer and opposums gladly chow down.

The ALP won’t come and pick up strays . I don’t drive, and cat foods for 6 stray is getting expensive.I keep calling and feeding, and every season more kittens that are attacked by more large stray dogs…where’s the help the humane society is suppose to provide? I’ve kept them as healthy as I can , without having them inside my home. Where is the help, they take in dogs all the time, are cats less important? Don’t give me that crap…cats kill the wild birds, I watched a german shepard take down a blue jay and then a cardinal last week.

Do winter season birds have new borns this time of year ?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird Feeder with 2 Comments

I have sparrows, cardinals and blue jays go to my feeding site and have noticed sometimes for example the blue jay grabs a few seeds and darts away flying quickly to another place , I’m wondering if it could be a nest or do these breeds wait for spring for new borns.

Cow Bird invasion at feeder driving favorite birds away and hogging the food; how can I get rid of only them?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird Feeder with 2 Comments

50 lbs of bird seed in three weeks, plus the extra stuff I add for my favorite birds. They stay in the tree tops when I try to scare them away. They even push the blue jay out and try to push the mourning doves (twice their size) around. How can I have just them discouraged. They don’t seem to care about the sunflower seeds, so they only bother that feeder when I have put nut meats in there for protein because the perchs are really too small for them.

Seniors, what kinds of birds are gathered at your feeder right now?

I see a ton of wrens and sparrows, once in awhile a woodpecker or a blue jay, and there’s always a couple of cardinals, male and female, who always seem to take turns at the feeder. I wonder why?

Are blue jays the bullies of the bird world?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird Feeder with 4 Comments

I love to feed the birds around my home. The blue jays
seem to "bully" the other birds, (wrens, cardinals, etc…).
The arrive with a loud shriek, and they won’t allow any
of the other birds to eat near them.

Do you find the beautiful blue jay aggressive?
