We have a cardinal that we feed it is a male looks like this we live in FL not own it its wild but comes to our by every morning to eat

Today it just died. But before it died it seemed very friendly and kept following me as I walked in my back yard as if it was saying goodbye. Finally after 30 mins I came down and picked him up and went immediately to my finger and mins later died

He was panting and all bubbled up we burried him but he did not have any sings that he was attacked or anything did he die cause he was old? how long is the lifespan of the cardinal?

There is 2 of them the lighter one they always share at the birdfeeder sharing and feeding each other.

Also will we get another red bird? cardinal? we enjoy him singing after eating at the top of a tree here.
