How to attract small wild birds to my garden?

Posted On April 14 In Birds

I’ve a big park in the back of my house loaded with many wild birds. I did put a bird feed station in my rear garden a week ago. I loaded it with fat balls, seeds, nuts and water plate. Yet, not a single bird approached. Any thoughts.

Keep all perts away from the garden and put out some bird feeders and some seeds or plant some flowers and plants that attract birds. Put out many different types of food this will get you a larger varity of birds thanks john

Give it time, if you have pets, dogs or cats keep them away from the feed station for a while. Once established you should get many wild beasties not only birds.

A backyard neighbor of mine has a bunch of sunflowers growing and some little yellow and black birds found it immediately.

We throw our food scraps on the back lawn, like our; bread crusts, pasta, pastry pizza bases, even fruit cores.
Some days we have 20 birds on the lawn it’s very cool.

If you have tried putting out seeds, you can try buying some from the pet shops to buy some. if you really want to see some birds, why don’t you go bird watching one day???

One thing I noticed you don’t have is a water source in your garden. Put out a bird bath or shallow bowl that the birds can drink and bathe in. Wildbirds enjoy taking a bath and want to drink water after they eat.

Also, make sure you have trees and bushes around so the birds have a place to escape from predators. If the birds don’t feel safe in your garden, they won’t be coming around.

Where food is concerned, also put out some fruit. Oranges, grapes, bananas, and cherries are a few of their favorite fruits.

Leaf litter will attract ground-eating birds, like sparrows or titmice.

Some wildbirds like a dust bath, so providing them with an area of sand can attract them to your yard.

Sometimes it just takes them a while to find the food.
