They need to learn you’ve opened the restaurant. So get out some advertisements… sprinkle seeds near the feeder and make sure the feeder itself isn’t obstructing the yummy view. If you have a clear or windowed feeder, it will attract birds within a week. After birds know that you are an established feeding ground, you can get into fancy, decorative feeders that may obstruct view of food.

Birds in the colder winter regions tend to play it safe and go where they know there is already seed and a predictable supply of it. So, this time of year, you need a bird to "happen" upon the feeder before it tells the flock about it. This way, they dont travel far to get their nutrition.

Just give it a few days. I had only one bird at my feeder after the first week and then it went up to 3 males. Then the females came and now I have a whole flock every day… over 2 months later.

    Good luck and happy birding!

It only took about a week, I have been told to sprinkle some of the seed on the ground under the feeder to attract them, and I still do because there are so many that they can’t all be on the feeders. Plus I give assorted seed, because the squirrels eat most of the sunflower seeds, plus I put corn in a feeder as well.
