I have crazy birds and I don't know what to do!?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird House with 2 Comments

I have a robin and a cardinal that keep smashing into my glass window. The robin has been doing it for at least three straight days, all day long. I live in a ranch atrium with a wall of windows. I also have a tree and a garden INSIDE my house next to the windows. I have a cat and a dog, but the bird is up too high and is not deterred when they go outside. I can’t put anything on my window because that will look stupid and ruin the effect of the wall of windows. Any advice? The constant banging starts at 5 am and now there is a ton of bird sh*t on my back patio.

What do you feel the weather will be this fall and winter……..?

based on your observations? Most people will go by folklore of the Wooly Bear caterpillar others will go by how plants grow.
I feel it will be one of the coldest winters that North Carolina has seen since the blizzard of 77-78. In late August, the squirrels had already started stripping the trees of their nuts (mostly pecan and oak) and by the second week in September, it was done. They usually won’t start till late September mid October. Mice already trying to get in the house. Birds started flying south in mid August and have already seen the flurry of cardinals and black capped chickadees hanging around. They usually don’t do that till late October. Even the Canadian Geese have started their migrations to our area since the end of August, usually it’s late October early November.

What are your predictions for your area or the states in general. Let us know what state you live in as well.

Stay warm :)
Eye of Mars : LOL! I’m originally from Southern Indiana and I definitely can agree to that.

How smart are birds?

I feel awful! We’ve had a wet summer and I was clearing out some vines that were overtaking the side of the house. Without realizing it I pulled down a cardinal’s nest. I should have known something was up because Mom and Dad cardinal were watching me the whole time. I accidentally stepped on one fledgling, then found another who was chirping. I put the baby bird back in the nest, put the nest back in the lilac tree. But – will Mom and Dad find it? I feel like crap. I didn’t know birds made nests and raised babies this late in the summer.

Birds, windows , & myths??

I have had 7incodents in the past where a bird has been unafraid of me or has flown into my house or has just been flapping at my window. Within a week thereafter I was giving bad news. 5 times someone past away and the other 2 was both news of incurable cancer in the family. The last few days I have had a Cardinal tapping and flapping at my windows. He has choosen my kitchen windows this morning. Finnally I have decided to open to keep him from hurting himself. He seems to be content just sitting on my window sill. This is abnormal behaviour of a bird again and I fear what the bad news will be this time. Has anyone else had any experiences like this? My friends and family freak out now when I call about a bird comming to me because they all know what follows.

How do I deal with a neighbor's vicious CAT?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird House with 4 Comments

Hello,

My neighbors own a cat that is quite vicious. It’s a known bird killer. I know it’s natural instinct, but it’s so infuriating.

They just let the cat out freely through the cat door, and that cat creates gruesome havoc! I like to think that my house is sanctuary for birds. Ducks, robins, and cardinals love to nest on my property. Even squirrels! I love having life grow near my house, it’s silly but I feel like it’s an honor. Lately, however I never see the birds grow up. I always seem to find broken eggs or mutilated younglings. It’s so disgusting! The cat seems to enjoy the killing because it doesn’t really eat anything. It just likes to rip open stomachs or twist necks.

I don’t know how to approach this situation. I like the family and want to be as polite as possible. Do I have any rights? It’s really traumatic for visiting children and just a big mess to clean up.

Please let me know.

Thank you.

PS I know cats are natural predators, but this is all just so violent. It’s not a nice feeling.

How do you non-lethally get rid of hawks?

I have a house in town. It has a bunch of old growth trees. We used to have Cardinals, Blue jays, Woodpeckers. and squirrels come around. Now we have a couple of stupid hawks picking off the birds and small critters. I know they have to eat but not in my backyard. I also have a small dog that I’m worried about. How do I get rid of the hawks?

Let me guess what you have: Lots of robins, House sparrows, Grackles (blackbirds), Starlings (blackbirds), mourning doves, American goldfinches, and house finches .

What book/novel goes like this?

I heard on a radio station a read-out exerpt of a story. I didn’t catch the title of the book but I am interested in it.

The scene I heard was:
The narrator is a boy who smokes weed. He just got kicked out of his house by his father. He thinks it’s because he is a bum or a drug-addict, but learns later that he was kicked out because he was gay. His mother drives him to his sister’s apartment by the university where he’ll stay until he can find his own place to live. They’re listening to a radio show re-run about cardinal birds, I think.

I’m pretty sure I got that right. What story is that? Who is it by?

I Have 2 Birds That ALL DAY Every Day Fly Into Our Window.?

Posted by Filed Under Cardinal Bird House with 9 Comments

Has anyone ever seen or dealt with this? It begins at sunrise every morning and goes until sunset.
We have a big front window at our house and there is a Cardinal and A Robin that repeatedly fly into the windows.
Our wake up call every morning is their beaks hitting the glass OVER AND OVER!!
Is it that they are maybe seeing their reflection?
Any Suggestions? Thanks!!
